Run for the Horses 2008

Hope for Horses second annual Run For The Horses 5K run and 1-mile Fun Walk was held September 20, 2008 in beautiful downtown Asheville! This year's race was a big success and brought out runners and equine supporters from near and far. The course started at the First Baptist Church parking lot in downtown Asheville and took runners on a scenic run through the historic streets of the city. Thanks to volunteers and the Asheville Police Department the event was safe and fun. There was also a 1-mile fun walk following the 5K start and our beloved mascots, David and Joey (miniature horses), were there to entertain! Kids and adults enjoyed decorating craft horses, dancing to the music and eating great food from Food Lion.

The City of Asheville co-sponsored our event this year and RMS Race Management introduced new, state-of-the-art chip technology for guarenteed accurate race results

This year, our Race Mascot was a little 4-month-old filly, Reese. Baby Reese has undergone cataract surgery in one eye with plans to operate on the other soon. We can't thank you enough for coming out to help Reese get her surgery and support all the other deserving horses in our care. We had a lot of fun and hope you did too.
